Las Vegas Entertainment
Las Vegas entertainment is world-renowned, with something to please everyone. It has acrobatic antics by the likes of Cirque Du Soleil, concerts by big name stars, cabaret shows, sports, comedy, and magic. Nearly every major hotel on the Strip has an onsite entertainment offering.
Entertainment Options
There are many different options among Las Vegas entertainment offerings because the city attracts so many different types of visitors. Some people come strictly for the Las Vegas casinos and focus mainly on gambling. Some come to do a bit of gaming, mixed in with other things. Some want adult oriented entertainment, while others bring their kids to the family friendly hotels and expect family friendly activities. Las Vegas has offerings for all of these different tourists.
Cirque Du Soleil
Cirque Du Soleil is well known for its touring acrobatic performances, accompanied by stirring soundtracks, and it has several permanent shows in Las Vegas. Some Cirque Du Soleil shows appeal to family members of all ages, while others are decidedly adult in nature. For example, Zumanity explores sexuality in a blunt burlesque style. Its subject matter means you should leave the kids back at the hotel. KA, with its martial arts theme, is appropriate for families, as is The Beatles Love, a show of breathtaking feats set to a soundtrack of Fab Four music. O is another Cirque Du Soleil show appropriate for all audiences, with constant activity that grabs even a fidgety kid's attention. Criss Angel has a Cirque Show, Believe, that is good for older kids, age 12 and up, as well as adults.
Music and Other Performances
Las Vegas has been known as a musical mecca from the days of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack to Elvis's glitzy performances right up to the present day, with singing sensations like Celine Dion taking up long-term residence on the modern Las Vegas Strip. Stars like Celine have their own venues, built or modified just for their shows. Other performers who pass through town appear at venues like the Pearl at the Palm or the Theater for the Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood. If you're not looking for a celebrity, there's plenty of old-school Las Vegas entertainment at the hotels and casinos, too. You don't have to look too far to find Las Vegas spectacles featuring feather-clad show girls dancing to the music.
Shows don't have to be musically based to be big draws. The Blue Man Group has permanent locations in several cities, including Las Vegas. Their eclectic show is hard to describe, but the iconic trio with the bright blue skin wow audiences of all ages in their Sin City performances.
Las Vegas Sports
Sports are a big part of the Las Vegas entertainment scene, both for spectators and as something on which to gamble. Virtually all of the major casinos take bets on horse races and other sports games. If you'd rather watch than wager, you'll find rodeo, wrestling matches, boxing, and even Formula One racing in Las Vegas. If you're more of a participant, you're in luck if you're a duffer because the golf courses in Las Vegas are among some of the nation's best places to play.
Comedy and Magic
Comedy and magic make up a huge part of the entertainment offerings in Las Vegas. Sigfried and Roy and their white tigers were once synonymous with Las Vegas magic. Although they retired after Roy had a tragic accident with one of the big cats, their Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat animal area is still a big draw at the Mirage. Other big names still carry the magic act gauntlet, include Penn and Teller and David Copperfield.
Las Vegas serves up the laughs, with well-known comedians like Carrot Top and his amazing props and ventriloquist Terry Fator. Be cautious when booking a comedy show, as many are risque and not suitable for kids.
Transportation
Las Vegas entertainment is found in most of the top hotels on the strip, like the Mirage, the Luxor, and Bellagio. You can easily get to your choice of shows on the drag by walking or taking the Las Vegas Monorail, which stops at or near all the major properties. Some of the hotels have their own trams that travel between several properties to make getting from place to place even easier.
