Las Vegas Tourist Sights

Las Vegas tourist sights abound because the city is a major tourist destination, drawing everyone from high-rolling gamblers to families with kids. There are animal exhibits, museums, fountains, and even volcanoes on and near the Las Vegas Strip, all beckoning visitors to stop in for the spectacle.

Major Sights

The major sights in Las Vegas begin as soon as you approach the town and are welcomed by the famous "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, an icon in countless tourist photos. Once you've arrived, your face a dazzling array of options, like the Stratosphere Tower that disappears more than 1,100 feet up into the sky. The Tower is great for observers who want an unparalleled view of the skyline and adventure seekers who challenge its rides, which include a controlled free-fall experience from the 108th floor. The Garden of the Gods Pools at Caesar's Palace, a complex of watery fun ranging from relaxing places to soak to a pool with a nightclub atmosphere. The Las Vegas Zoo offers a respite from the Strip, as it's located about 15 minutes away. The three-acre zoo is open daily, with animal residents including lions, wallabies, and predators from Madagascar called fossas. The zoo is a family fun spot, as is Gameworks in Las Vegas, where youngsters can eat, drink, and immerse themselves in arcade games. The Eiffel Tower Experience in Las Vegas is a half-sized replica of the French icon, and the Las Vegas Mini Grand Prix has go-kart tracks that fuel the adrenaline in kids and adults alike.

Famous Las Vegas Spectacles

Las Vegas is anything but a low-key town. It's well know for its spectacles, many of which are found at Las Vegas hotels. Often you don't even have to pay an admission charge to see them. The Bellagio Hotel has its famous dancing fountains, choreographed to special soundtracks. Mandalady Bay has a shark reef with creatures like its namesakes, as well as giant rays, jellyfish, piranhas and more. You can also find animals a few miles away from the MGM Grand, in the form of its famous lions who rove their habitat and thrill visitors daily. Want to see a volcano erupt? Just check out the Mirage, which has its own volcano that puts on quite a show. You don't have to go to Italy for a gondola ride, since the Venetian Hotel gondolas offer indoor rides daily right in Las Vegas.

Museums

While Las Vegas is famous for its ostentatious side, it also has culture in the form of some interesting museums that attract tourists. Sin City is known for its mafia connections, making it the perfect place for the Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, also known as the Mob Museum. Las Vegas is also home to the Museum of Atomic Testing, which harkens back to the Atomic Era and shares the history and uses of atomic energy.

If those museums sound like their subject matter is a little heavy for family vacation activities, you can opt for the Las Vegas Pinball Museum, also known as the Pinball Hall of Fame, where you can see and play these classic games. The Neon Museum of Las Vegas, is a very appropriate place considering the number of glowing lights on the modern Las Vegas Strip. It's dedicated to saving old signs when they get replaced. Madame Tussauds Las Vegas exhibits eerily lifelike wax sculptures of celebrities, and the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art is an art connoisseur's dream, with a frequently changing exhibit of classic artwork.

Transportation

Since the majority of the Las Vegas tourist sights are located right on the strip, you can take advantage of trams that run between some of the hotels or the Las Vegas Monorail, which has a route that takes it right down the strip, with stops at many popular properties. Taxis are readily available in Las Vegas, and you'll find that you can simply walk to many attractions if you're staying at a centrally located property. Many hotels with the best locations are also family friendly hotels, making it easy to see the city if you're traveling with kids. Some Las Vegas tourist sights do require driving, like the zoo.
