The Stratosphere Tower
The Stratosphere Tower is part of the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower located on the very south end of downtown Las Vegas, at the gateway to the Las Vegas strip south of town. The tower offers more than just a view: there are four thrill rides, a revolving restaurant, two cocktail bars, wedding chapels, and both indoor and outdoor observation decks.
The Tower
The Stratosphere Tower rises1149 foot over the Las Vegas strip. This is the tallest structure in the city and also the tallest freestanding observation tower within the United States. To put its size in perspective, the tower roughly half as tall as the Eiffel Tower in Paris and twice the size of the Space Needle in Seattle.
The tower opened in 1996 after a slightly sordid series of business deals. The world's tallest roller coaster sat on top of the tower for several years running before new rides took over the space.
The tower provides a fantastic view of the Last Vegas strip, downtown Las Vegas, the surrounding suburbs, the sprawling desert, and the mountainscape of the Spring Mountains off in the distance. You can view from both an inside observation deck from a large, outdoor deck. During the day, you can see for miles. At night, the lit up city below makes for a unique sight.
Thrill Rides
It really doesn't get any more extreme than this. The Stratosphere Tower offers four different thrill rides at the top that aren't for the faint-hearted.
If you're the type to stand on the outdoor observation tower and wonder what it might be like to free fall from that kind of height, SkyJump was designed with you in mind. The 855-foot bungee jump gives you the opportunity to take a leap off the tallest structure in town.
Insanity is a common thrill ride found at most amusement parks, fairs, and carnivals - except that rather than spinning and dangling you fifteen or twenty feet up, Insanity spins and dangles you 900 feet up. The ride spins fast enough that you face downward to look straight down.
X-Scream is a piece of roller coaster track that terminates 27 feet off the tower. A teeter-totter action rolls your roller coaster cart back, and then slowly tips up, allowing the car to build momentum and roll down the track that leads nowhere.
The tallest thrill ride in the world at 1081 feet tall lives at the Stratosphere. The Big Shot shoots riders up the very top of the tower, allowing them to freefall their way back down.
If the rides aren't thrilling enough for you, two wedding chapels allow you to tie the knot. The hotel can help you arrange a thrill ride wedding or a reception for over 200 people on the observation decks.
Dine, Drink, and Party High
The Top of the World restaurant on the 107th floor of the Stratosphere Tower rotates a full 360 degrees every 80 minutes, allowing every diner the opportunity to take in the view during the course of their meal. Enjoy a lunch, a course dinner, or just a cheese course and wine while taking in the view. Reservations are strongly recommended.
AirBar is a party in the sky. Enjoy a cocktail, dance to the music designed by the DJ, watch the crazy SkyJump people as they leap off the building, or party harder with VIP bottle service while taking in the spectacular view. If a quieter evening is your taste, kick back with a specialty martini and a Cheesecake lollipop at the Level 107 Lounge.
Tower Base
Before or after your journey into the sky, there's a lot to do around the tower base. The Tower Shops is a 32-shop mall situated at the very bottom of the tower. The Stratosphere Hotel Casino gaming floor is 80,000 square foot large, filled with slot machines and exciting table games. The Stratosphere is home to the erotic production Bite, a steamy, sexy rock and roll opera.
The location of the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower is smack in between the Fremont Street action in downtown Las Vegas, and all of the exciting attractions and casinos of the Las Vegas Strip.
